Introduction to Blacksmithing

This hands-on class introduces students to the fundamentals of blacksmithing, including forge safety, basic tool use, and essential forging techniques. Participants will learn how to heat, shape, and manipulate steel while creating simple projects to build confidence and skill at the anvil. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to learn and work with fire and metal.
Hunting Knife

In this course, students will demonstrate the skills to forge a basic blade and assemble the handle in a hidden tang technique. Students will learn the various hunting knife designs and proportions. Students will also learn steel types, heat treating, and sharpening techniques.
Bowie Knife
with Ricardo Vilar
In this hands-on course, students will learn the fundamentals of forging and finishing a classic Bowie knife. Instruction covers blade design, forging techniques, heat treatment, grinding, handle construction, and final sharpening. Emphasis is placed on craftsmanship, safety, and traditional Bowie knife features. By the end of the course, each student will complete a functional Bowie knife and gain practical skills applicable to future bladesmithing projects.
Axe Making

This hands-on course introduces students to the basics of traditional axe making. Participants will learn to forge and shape an axe head, heat treat the steel, and craft and fit a wooden handle. Emphasis is placed on shop safety, proper tool use, and craftsmanship. By the end of the course, students will complete a functional handmade axe.
